need yahoo help
« on: August 03, 2009, 02:10:25 PM »
Was wondering if anyone else is having this problem or if it's just me.....for going on 2 weeks now messenger has been giving me fits.

I used to leave yahell messenger open at nite in case my kid wanted to text me (doesn't cost her anything to do it vs. calling).  But in the past couple of weeks yahell has been snapping shut on me when I click on the window to answer any IM's I have gotten. Then it's sometimes 2-3 days before I can even get it to let me back on.....then it starts all over again  :ticked: :ticked: :ticked:

Am beyond being amused - it is getting to be a real pita now - have someone who I promised to help with something but also said I wouldn't do anything until I could catch them on yahoo....that was almost 2 weeks ago   I know they think I am just blowing them off since I have had windows with messages from them....but when I click on the window, yahoo closes on me.  Just happened yet again in the last 1/2 hour.  :(  Am NOT ignoring them I swear  :(

Any suggestions?  And don't suggest using MSN messenger - had bad experiences with it in the past and will not use it ever again.

TIA for any help  *sighs*

Yahoo is a resource pig.  If you are clicking PTP links alot or have windows open that are resource heavy like a PTP page. Yahoo will throw a tantrum if you're PC doesn't run cool or it doesn't have resource priority.

Solution #1
Take the PC apart and thoroughly vacuum it out.  It helps.

Solution #2
Do not use the latest version of Yahoo.  Try to find one of the older versions.

Solution #3
Yahoo has to be the first program you open when you start your PC.  And if you shut it down, you have to reboot to get it to work properly.

I've pretty much given up on it if I'm doing anything PTR.  I turn it on first thing in the morning, check messages, leave off lines because no one else is awake that early.

Any other suggestions?  Tried BBE's - no improvement

It will work for a while - then when someone else IM's me (2 IM windows open) - when I click on the second window to reply - yahell snaps shut on me.  O.o :ticked: :ticked: :ticked:
