Windows 7
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:01:46 AM »
Eeerm - not sure - did we have a tech corner here? If so.... :-T

I am considering installing Windows 7 - but...

I have to admit I am pretty uncertain about compatibilities - does anyone of you run it?

Do your old programs still work - as Microsoft has proven in the past, downwards compatibility isn't their best call

Would pretty much hate to clean it all out again after installing and seeing nothing works anymore

I just tonight installed Windows 7. Previously I was running Vista 64 bit. Everything seems to be working so far.

I have not run into any incompatibility problems and it seems to run much faster.

I will post again if I have any problems

Oh that would be great - not that I hope you will run into problems :panic:

What I would be running basically would be... erm

Office 2003
Firefox (I suppose if Firefox runs the extensions will too), Opera
Kaspersky
Trillian, WinAmp, FileZilla, Skype, CCleaner
and some others I rarely use

Just worries about drivers though  :hmm2:

I have been running windows 7 for a while tested it before it was released to the general public and have to say it is a very reliable system if you are already using vista the upgrade version works well you will notice things will improve greatly as far as compatibility issues their are a few but most software issues have fixes that can be download from the manufacturer web site

There are many tutorials in the "getting started area" and if you should have a program that doesnt work in Windows 7, there is a compatibility troubleshooting area that lets you change settings to make that program work.

So far all my things work, but I upgraded to Windows7 from Vista. If you previously used XP, you might run into some compatibility issue, but most of your programs should work fine.

After 1 day, I find I really like Windows 7

But I was going to format my C Partion anyways.

So I suppose I can safely give it a shot

Thank You for your opinions so far!
